Running from Discomfort?

by - Sunday, February 25, 2018

Hey Beauties, I hope you are having a Happy Sunday! I wanted to encourage you about something that has been on my heart for a while. Are you in your comfortable little bubble, running from any form of discomfort? Are you limiting God because you do not want to risk being hurt again? This is for you!

James 1: 2-4 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

This verse is clear that difficult times make you grow and reach where God wants you to be. There is more behind your difficult situation and if you look at things with spiritual eyes, you may start to see that your situation causes you to look more like Jesus and lean on him that extra bit more. Spending time with God and His word helps us to see things differently. So instead of praying for God to get you out of an uncomfortable situation, pray that He grants you the strength and wisdom to get through. So that He can teach you something new that you can bless others with!

A recent uncomfortable situation I can think of is moving office that I had been at for 2+ years and starting a Professional Qualification in my current role. I had to walk away from colleagues that I felt comfortable around, worked well with and had formed good friendships with. Of course I have stayed in touch, but it is never been the same.

A cake that my colleague baked for me on my last day - so sweet!

Initially I was hurt towards God, as the office I joined was different. I was uncomfortable! God begun to show me that He placed me there for a reason greater than myself; if I just trusted Him He would continue to show me. We forget that situations that He places us in show His glory time and time again to those that may not have seen it. Our character is formed when facing discomfort, which gives us strength to face the next challenge, quite frankly I don’t want to miss out or be an overly sensitive (always offended) woman. I want to be a strong Christian Proverbs 31 woman that represents strength, leaning on God all the way!

I realised that completing a Professional Qualification is something that the majority in my previous circle were not willing to do. They were comfortable and what they had was ok for them. I am not knocking them, I love my colleagues but I noticed that when I left and started progressing, many of them followed suit. Sometimes it takes a leader to stand up for what is right in order for others to follow. We often forget the authority and strength that God has blessed us with and we should use it accordingly.

If we look at Genesis 22, we will see that Abraham was willing to sacrifice his only son, because God told him to. As foolish as your situation may sound to the world, God has a plan that makes sense. Hebrews 11, which is known as the Hall of Fame will encourage you with many individuals in the Bible that can mentor us if we read their story. I always say that the word of God prevents us from years of hurt, wasting of time and doing the most unsafe thing we can do, which is not walking in the will of God.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.

Working at my new office I have grown so much spiritually, learnt about myself and embraced discomfort. As a Christian I do not want to become stagnant, I want to grow. There is more than we could ever imagine so we need to stop limiting God. I look like a fool to many of the people closest to me such as some of my family, because I believe in the word of God with no compromise. But that is ok, I will face that discomfort for eternity with my Father. He has saved my life and I am truly free. So if you really trust in Him, embrace some discomfort today.

God bless,

Rosemary x
