Spiritual Gifts

Happy New Month Beauties! So lately I have really felt led to encourage about out gifts that we are given by God and how we can put them to better use. I did a video on it, which I will leave below but wanted to go into more detail for my readers. I pray that this month is a better one for you in terms of motivation and goal setting! May God be with you on your unique and beautiful journey with our Father. The beautiful thing is that He meets us where we are and that is enough for Him! So let us continue to praise Him for the Almighty Father that He is. He is not fickle with his love like we can be with each other.

So what am I on about with these spiritual gifts then? Well, Jesus has blessed each and every one of us with gifts to spread the gospel for His glory. For example, he may have given you such an amazing singing voice or the ability to encourage others through uplifting them with positive words. But sometimes when one does not know Christ, they may use their gifts in the wrong way i.e. singing lustful and ungodly songs or motivational speaking, encouraging people that they can do it on their own, taking away from God’s glory of being the one that gives them the strength and grace to get by every passing moment.

Lets get in the context of scripture.
James 1:17 (NIV)
17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Lets look at Joshua and his gift to interpret dreams.

Genesis 37 (NIV)
Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives, and he brought their father a bad report about them.
Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made an ornate[a] robe for him. When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.
So as we see here, his own brothers already had a problem with Joseph because he was loved more. Does this sound familiar to you? Do peoples opinions or hate for you in the family stop you from doing what God has called you to do?

Joseph was a dreamer and often shared with his family what he dreamt of. This resulted in them wanting to kill him out of rage and jealousy. This teaches me the lesson that sometimes we do not have to tell others about what God has told us to do. Let the Holy Spirit guide you in what you tell others. Sometimes it is those close to you (family members) that see your gift and hate you most because of jealousy.

Genesis 37
Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.”
His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said.
Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”
10 When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?” 11 His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

I really believe that jealousy is such a wasted emotion. Want to know why? Because God has blessed you too!! We look at social media and compare away, when God has blessed us with our own gifts, platform and opportunity to spread His word in our own unique way. If we were so focused on what God calls us to do and seek Him to give us the right attitude, we would respond differently to other’s blessings. Instead of being hateful, have you thought of supporting, uplifting and praying for others?
I have friends that use the art of rap music, to rap about Christ and His love for them. I know others that use fashion and beauty to draw people in to hear the good news of the gospel. My journey in particular started with hair. I shared my hair journey with many on You Tube and then God spoke and it became about Him. So not only do I make quality videos about my natural hair journey, but I share God’s word. This blog was born and now when I feel led, I share. What are you good at? Ask God to reveal this to you. The more you spend making it about Him, the more He will lift you up for His glory. This is not for you to boast, but to acknowledge who your source is and who makes it happen for you daily.

Genesis 42
Now Joseph was governor over Egypt. He was the one who sold the grain to people who came to buy it. So Joseph’s brothers came to him and bowed facedown on the ground before him. When Joseph saw his brothers, he knew who they were, but he acted as if he didn’t know them. He asked unkindly, “Where do you come from?”

So Joseph’s dreams came true! When his brothers were busy hating and being jealous, they did not realise that they would one day bow down to him. God really does work in mysterious ways. There is so much wisdom that can be taken from this story. One of the things that I will draw upon is that we need to start seeing each other the way God sees us. It is hard, I know! But we really are the images of God [Genesis 1:27] capable of doing mind-blowing things to give Him the glory.

When you see someone that is an unbeliever today. Remember that God created them for such a time as this. They have been blessed with gifts that may not show yet, they may just bring out negative traits but do not write them off. You never know what they can become tomorrow. Encourage them as much as you can and pray for them continuously. That is all we can do.

What is it that you are good at? What has God told you to do that you have not done, due to worry or fear about what others will say or think? Pray that God gives you the strength, For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline [2 Timothy 1:7].

Start the blog, Instagram page, You Tube channel and etc that will spread the gospel. It does not only have to be internet based of course, but the net can be used for good and bad, so why not put the word out there so that it can reach those you never expected it to. My readers and viewers most likely will not be my friends and family (they might be too), but those out there that I would least expect. It could even be a colleague that hardly talks to me. But that is not my problem! My main concern is that the word of God reaches whomever it needs to reach. I want to be a willing vessel in order to spread His word.

One last thing, are you worried about looking uncool, having a handful of followers and supporters or just feeling insecure about what God has called you to do? Just focus on the only one that matters, Jesus Christ. Who cares if you are not a popular figure, Is it about you or Him? Check your heart and ask God to make it concerned with His business. Do not expect your family and friends to support you and get upset when they don’t! it is the enemy’s way of discouraging you! There is a cost to follow Jesus and not everyone in your family will agree. I have seen it in my own life, but that will not stop me, because He already teaches of this in His word.

Luke 12:51-53 (ESV)

Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.

Use your beautiful spiritual gifts to spread love in a world that needs it the most. May God be with you on your journey to serving Him and having a deeper relationship with Him! In Jesus name, Amen.
