Learning to Keep Our Emotions In Check

Hey loves, I wanted to encourage you on something that I have been going through and reflecting on. The whole idea of learning not to act on our emotions is so important. I feel like being a Christian is all about being real with ourselves and allowing God to work on us inside and out. It is sometimes described like surgery; the truth hurts, the process hurts too but we want God to shape us for His glory.

We all have a common goal to spread His Gospel and make disciples. So if you are ever in doubt on what your purpose it, ask yourself whether what you do in life brings God glory. Seek His face and if not, ask Him how you can do better.

In life, the enemy will always try to find a way to bring us down. This can be through people, especially those close to us who we would not expect it from or just any other form of negativity. Staying immersed in His word will bring us an inner peace, which we may not feel instantly. This is because having a relationship with God is a daily decision that we have to work on for a lifetime.

I want to encourage you today to learn how to keep yourself encouraged in the Lord and by doing this, keeping your emotions in check. The world throws us all types of lies. I do not know what you are going through today Beautiful, but what I do know is that God is so faithful. If we knew and understood how much He loves us and things super highly of us, we would probably change some of our ways and think differently.

As women, this can be difficult. We can be emotional due to past hurts, insecurities, disappointments and just negative words that may have been spoken to us. Let God heal those wounds. Just give it all to Him and trust Him. He is not man that He should lie or ever let you down. He will never let you down or disappoint you. And He does not think the way we do, so one may have a perspective of being let down because they did not get what they want. But I pray that God shows us to think a bit more like Him.

I just want to use scripture to crush any negative thoughts that you may be feeling which have an impact on your emotional wellbeing. Remember that you constantly have to keep yourself encouraged in Christ in order to be whole and stronger.

You may not feel worthy, beautiful or desirable. Genesis 1:27 reminds us that we are created in His image. To me, that is a beautiful thing because when I look at people around me, I remember God and all the beauty that He has created in us. Jeremiah 1:5 reminds us of how special God sees each and every one of us, reminding us that before we were formed in the womb He knew us. I do not know about you, but that makes me feel pretty special.

We are all unique in our own way and God has an individual plan for each and every one of us. Remember that He cares about every part of us, even the things that we may dismiss as minor, like hair growth or having a cold. Beauty fades, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised [Proverbs 31:30].

You may be struggling to let go of a relationship that God told you to, because you have strong feelings for the person. Know that waiting on God and trusting Him is the best thing that you can do. I know it is difficult, as it seems that doing things God’s way can appear long and slow. God does not think the way we do and we have to remember that when we are being prepared for marriage, a lot has to go into it. God needs to shape, mould and heal us to be a good helpmeet.

These are just a few scenarios, but the devil certainly uses our insecurities or current struggles to bring us down. Remember that you are more than a conqueror and everything you need to fill those voids in your heart can be found in Christ. In His presence there is unexplainable peace.

Philippians 4
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

When we learn how to keep our emotions in check, it really changes everything. We are naturally born into having a sin nature and have to be taught by our parents what is right and wrong. So by default, if we do not check our hearts daily and ask God to cleanse us, we can find ourselves in habitual sin.

If that ex or person that you know you should not be speaking to contacts you, you will know how to deal with that situation, regardless of your emotions. If you are feeling frustrated in your single life and celibacy, feeling like God is taking too long and you want to have sex, being aware that these emotions are not of God, you will know that it is important to express how you are feeling to God and ask Him to replace those negative desires with His. You will not go out there and fall back into old ways because you know who you are in Christ and understand that a Child of God has to be set apart.

Even if you do backslide, you will pick yourself up and fight against the enemy chanting at you, trying to make you feel like you cannot fight for your relationship with Jesus. Sweetheart, if you sinned do not stay in your sin. Understand that the blood of Jesus is the only thing that will cleanse you and bring you freedom. Do not beat yourself up. Get up, repent and keep following Jesus. Pick up your cross daily. Do not give up. The things of this world are null and void, your relationship with Jesus is worth it. Keep pushing with this in mind and learn to confront and fight against emotions that are not like Him.

2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
