Honesty as Christians

The Lord laid it on my heart to discuss honesty and integrity as Christians, how do we encourage one another. Let me paint this picture and put things more into perspective…

A while back, a lady was preaching on being honest with each other about our struggles and was making the point that sometimes when asked, “How are you”, we respond with something like, “Blessed and highly favoured, I am doing really well thanks”.

There is nothing wrong with being any of those things, but I just feel like sometimes we paint the illusion that because we are now Christians, everything is pink, fluffy and beautiful. It is not so! Actually it is the complete opposite, since we are going against the world and all its evil.

I have learnt that, it becomes harder as time goes on. When you have to die to self and put others first. In learning patience and kindness and having to sacrifice things that we really do not want to! And in all these things, Jesus wants us to be consistent, even when we do not feel like it. Because believe me, you will not always feel like it and that’s when it gets tough.

That’s why fellowship is important. I think we often take for granted the gatherings and Church services and do not make the most out of them. We spend time talking about denominations and look down on other Churches, as if that is what it is all about. Believe me, I too have been guilty of this.

There are so many Bible verses about fellowship, the below are just a few:

James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

Acts 2:42 They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Jesus understands that things get tough out here, living this Christian life! I think it is a beautiful thing that we get to do life together. Don’t get me wrong, we should rely on our source Jesus first. But we should also uplift one another and just be sensitive to the fact that some people are feeling alone and suffering in silence.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

So how can we be relatable to each other as Christians? well it all starts with honesty. Lets stop trying to be Super Christians and understand that we are a lot stronger united in the body of Christ. We have all been blessed with our different gifts i.e. one person an encourager, the other a helper. Let us pray that we do not let our strengths in encouraging one another go to waste.

God bless you all,
