Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

I have been reflecting on this verse in the past week and it has really been encouraging me. But what does it really mean?

Well, it asks God to create in us a clean heart, meaning that the old has been put to death and the new lives for Him. 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds me of the beautiful transformation in Christ: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

What a beautiful relief that we get to have a second chance! I like to remind myself of the phrase, "new day, new me" that Joshua Eze encourages us with. All this encourages me with the first part of Psalm 51:10.

The second part mentions a renewal of a steadfast spirit. I really wanted to understand this part on a different level, so I defined the word steadfast. Which word does your Bible translation use? I think it is important to study across different translations to have a feel of the wording used and ask the Holy Spirit to do the rest.

Steadfast – Resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering. Synonyms: loyal, faithful, committed, devoted, dedicated, dependable, reliable, steady, true, constant, staunch, trusty.

When I studied this, I was like yes Lord I want to be all these things! But the question is, which effort are we making in allowing God to prune us? The scripture that comes to mind is John 15:2:

He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.

We have to go through a total transformation in order to grow and we have to decide how much we want to live for Jesus. I pray that you reflect on this truth today. God bless and have a blessed week in Christ. I pray you come to get to know Him better this week. He is so faithful!
