Why I Love St James!

Sometimes when I need some encouragement in life, one of my go-to favourites in the Gospel is James. It serves me such inspiration and courage to see all my problems as minute things that can never get the best of me.

[James 1:2-4] Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. [NIV Version]

The above just puts things into perspective and makes me see something that I saw as a huge problem, something that will make me a stronger person. If you really think about it, it is true - all your disappointments in life, the people that have let you down etc, would you say it has made you stronger? because it sure has for me.

Why worry about things? If we truly believe God is our saviour and has our lives all planned out for us, then it would be beneficial to learn through discipline to be spiritually stronger. As easy as it sounds, it is true! Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find! [Matthew 7:7] One of the most amazing things I find about being a Christian is the relationship that I have and continuously nurture with Jesus. It is so beautiful because we can all have that unique friendship with the Lord, who communicates with us in different ways.

However, Faith is a huge part of being a Christian. What relationship do we have with Jesus if we do not truly trust and believe in Him? The next part of the scripture demonstrates this.

[James 1:5-7] If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

[James 2:14] What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? can such faith save him?

[James 2:17] In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

I know, it is not an easy thing to be a Christian. With the world pulling us this way and that way with its deceit, but it is all good because we fight against that. Certain things we as humans go through are painful and disappointing. The devil wants us to be distracted and make us feel unworthy. But the devil is a liar! and always will be. Make it a good habit to practice communicating with the Lord, though matter what.

You may not understand a particular situation in your life, perhaps a job you want, financial situations, people you love walking away etc, but just know that God is preparing you for something great. What you want may not be what he needs for you. If you truly want to be a Christian and give your life to Him you must let go of old ways and carry your cross with Him [Luke 9:23]. The world is not what it seems. Allow Him to use you and mould you into what He created you to be. Change can be uncomfortable but, He knows that His will is perfect for us - so believe Him and watch the fruition. Often, God is protecting us from something, so just remember that every disappointment is a blessing in disguise. Patience is key!

Spend some time with James!
